Information regarding subsidised accommodation nearby

There are a range of accommodation options available for families who need to stay with, or close to their child at Queensland Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane. Under certain circumstances immediate family members may be permitted to stay in the hospital overnight with their child.

Our charity partners and government subsidies also provide assistance to families requiring long-term accommodation so that they can stay close to the hospital at a subsidised, or discounted cost.

Emergency accommodation Patients and families arriving after 4.30pm or during weekends or public holidays should speak to the Nurse Lead about emergency accommodation. The Nursing Team Leader will contact a Clinical Nurse Consultant Safety or evening and weekend Social Worker to provide support or guidance if required. If you are unable to get assistance, contact the numbers listed below under ‘Accommodation assistance’.

Long-term accommodation Patients and families from outside Brisbane who require accommodation while their child is receiving treatment at the Queensland Children’s Hospital may be able to stay with charitable accommodation providers such as:

* Ronald McDonald House - South Brisbane 283 Vulture Street, South Brisbane: Ph 07 3845 1600 (5 minute walk).

* Ronald McDonald House – Herston 22 Garrick Terrace, Herston: Ph 07 3257 0328 (20 minutes by bus or vehicle).

Subsidised accommodation The Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme (PTSS) provides assistance to families who have no option but to travel more than 50km for their child to receive specialist medical treatment. If your child’s condition cannot be treated at your local hospital there is financial assistance available through the PTSS to partly cover the cost of your travel, as well as accommodation in instances where extended hospital stays are necessary.
