CRGH Social Work Service

The Social Work Department is located at Building 40, Concord Hospital.

Social workers offer a confidential, unique and valuable service to patients and families whilst hospitalised. A stay in hospital can be a difficult time. Social workers are able to provide practical and emotional support to minimise the stress, and address the impact of illness, injury and disability on patients, families and carers.

The Social Work Department is involved in running several therapeutic and educational groups as well as health promotion/awareness activities within the hospital for both inpatients and outpatients. Further information is available from the Social Work Department.

The Social Work Department recognises the valuable contribution of carers in supporting our patients in their day to day lives. The Department holds a series of Carers Forums each year where speakers from a variety of services and professions provide information and advice to assist carers in their caring role. The dates and details of these forums are advertised locally and further details can be obtained by contacting the Social Work Department.

Referrals to Social Work can be made by patients, carers, family members, nursing, allied health and medical staff. If you believe services may be necessary for discharge, early contact with the social worker is recommended.

Financial assistance is available for people living in isolated and remote areas of NSW who have to travel more than 100kms (one way) to access specialist treatment. To make a claim, patients can obtain an application form from their referring General Practitioner. For information about the Isolated Patients Travel & Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS)
