QCH Social Worker Service

The Social Work team at the Queensland Children’s Hospital works with patients and their families to help them adjust to and cope with the challenges surrounding the child’s health condition or injury.

Services include:

•counselling

•emotional support through times of crisis and distress

•providing education and information

•advocacy

•planning for returning home

•referral to community agencies and supports

•liaising with interstate, regional and other metropolitan hospitals

•facilitating access to other hospital services

•referral to our Welfare Service.

Opening Hours

There are social workers available to all inpatients and outpatients at the Queensland Children’s Hospital during normal business hours.

There is also a dedicated evenings, weekends and public holiday social worker located on-site until midnight, to provide support to children and families in situations where families are experiencing acute trauma and crisis
