SCH Volunteer Family Support Program

Our team will provide support to patients and their families whether they are at home or during hospital admissions. We will support the primary medical team of a patient referred to our service to enhance the coordination of care across the hospital and community setting. Our team can provide advice and support for complex symptom management and psychosocial support for all members of the family.

Family Support Volunteers visit families in their own home and can help in a number of ways, such as;

• Reading, playing or doing craft with an unwell child and/or siblings

• Looking after an unwell child while a parent gets some rest or does other activities around the house

• Helping with light practical tasks around the house

• Looking after siblings during medical appointments

• Helping with outings to the park or playground

• Running errands, such as helping with shopping
