Westmead Pastoral Care

Chaplains offer emotional and spiritual care and support for you and your relatives. If you would like someone to listen to you, pray with you or receive the sacraments, ask your nurse to contact a chaplain. Or, you can leave a request for the chaplains in the door to the Chaplains Department.

Full and part time chaplains based in the hospital represent the Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian and Uniting churches. There are also Chaplains and pastoral carers who visit on a weekly basis from the faith traditions of Buddhism, Greek Orthodox, Hindu, Jehovah’s Witness and Islam.

If you would like to see a chaplain of another denomination or faith, or a chaplain who speaks a community language, please ask the Pastoral Care staff and we will do our best to organise it.

You can also access a balcony to the chapel on level 3 adjacent to the ward A3C. There is an Islamic prayer area on level 2, near the library.

A Catholic Mass is celebrated each Sunday at 11.15am and at 12 noon on Wednesdays and Thursdays. A non-denominational Christian prayer service is conducted 8.45am - 9.00am Monday to Friday (except in January).

There is a prayer book located at the back of the chapel that anyone from the Westmead Hospital Community – patients, families, visitors and staff -- may write in and these prayers are said within the weekday and Sunday Christian services.

Islamic prayers are offered in the chapel on Fridays from 1:15 pm with occasional variances.

The Sacrament of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) is brought to Catholic patients every Sunday from 9.00am. If you would like this, ask your relatives or staff member to contact the chaplains before 8.30am on Sunday, or leave a request form at the chaplain’s department, which is located behind the chapel.
